BEGORRAH ! A WEE PARADE IS PLANNED ST PATRICK’S DAY - CLIFTON FORGE, VA. Clifton Forge is hosting The Shortest Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in the Alleghany Highlands, March 17. Get your best green outfit ready and assemble at 5PM, rain or shine, at Bannon’s Irish Inn at 411 E. Ridgeway Street. We will eat – Irish Soda Bread - We will drink - Green Punch- And- we will be merry while competing in the Ugliest Knees Contest. So all you lads and lassies be sure to wear your kilt. Then we will parade across Ridgeway Street to Jack Mason’s Tavern and Brewery at 400 E. Ridgeway Street to lift a glass in toast to St. Patrick and to each other. Easter Bonnet Celebration

Parade begins at 11am. Line up is at 10:45 at the Elks Lodge (306 Ridgeway) Causal and pet friendly. Bring the entire family! Awards will be given for adults and kids in the following categories: most beautiful bonnet, most handsome hat, most creative hat, and most creative bonnet. Pet categories are most fun and most creative hat/bonnet. Take a picture with the Easter bunny under the awesome balloon archway at the finish line. Hunt for eggs and visit with the Easter Bunny immediately following the parade at Scott Hill Retirement Community (700 W. Ridgeway Street). Join us on Saturday, May 19, for a Fun 5K Run, 5 Mile Paddle and 10 Mile Bike in Clifton Forge, VA, the beautiful Alleghany Highlands. Race begins at the Sharon Community Center in Clifton Forge at 4017 Nicelytown Road, Clifton Forge. Packet pick-up and registration will be 5:30-7pm May 18th at Jack Mason's Tavern and 7:30 am at The Sharon Community Center on May 19. Alleghany Highlands Heritage Day & Railway Heritage Day is a celebration of the heritage of the Alleghany Highlands, our Railway History, and a chance to honor our Veterans this year. Continuous entertainment in story and song, food from around the globe and our own backyard, a quilt bed-turning, 100 demonstrations, vendors and displays that entertain, educate and enchant. The Festival takes place in downtown Clifton Forge, at the beautifully restored Historic Masonic Theatre, Alleghany Highlands Arts & Crafts Center, the Masonic Amphitheatre, Clifton Forge Public Library, The Jungle/Smith Creek Entrance Point, Clifton Forge School of the Arts, and don't miss our quilt pew display at Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church. The Flag Day Celebration @ the Masonic Amphitheatre begins at 5:30pm. The Stars and Stripes Celebration Committee of Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc. is excited to announce this year’s 242nd Nation’s Birthday events. We will kick off our patriotic celebration with a Flag Day Ceremony, June 14th, at 5:30 pm at the Masonic Amphitheatre. Included in the ceremony will be flag presentations by Boy Scout Troop #2, Girl Scout Troup # 699, and Clifton Forge VFW posts #4299 and #1033. Jim "Neighbor" Smith with also take part in the flag ceremony. In addition there will be patriotic music sung by Dale Meuterspaugh and a benefit picnic supper with birthday cake. Fourth of July Celebration Alleghany VA 2018

On July 4th, we will begin the day-long celebration with a Down Town parade at 11 am. We urge you to come out and enjoy the parade or even be in it. As this is a small town celebration in the best sense of the word, we are hoping that many of our young people will hop on the bikes, carry a flag or wear something red, white and blue and march or ride in the parade. At the conclusion of the parade everyone is invited to gather at the Town Hall steps for a special ceremony honoring our Veterans.Following a reading of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence at the Town Hall steps we encourage you to follow our bagpipers on a short walk to the Masonic Amphitheatre for an afternoon concert and a picnic lunch. Children can enjoy painting cardboard houses and getting their faces painted. At 6 PM, the grounds of the C & O Heritage Center open to the public, free of charge, for an evening of informal fun, food and festivities. Back by popular demand are the Henry Downing Band and the 50 member Celebration Chorale presenting a Patriotic Cantata. This outstanding presentation will include a Retreat of the Colors. On Friday evening November 30th at 6:00 PM Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc. invites you to be a participant or a spectator in our 2018 Christmas Parade. This year we have chosen SANTA'S WORKSHOP for our theme. As in past years, the parade will begin at the intersection of Ridgeway and Roxbury Streets and continue down Ridgeway Street through the historic district to the Clifton Forge Fire Station on D Street.
