September 2015

This past year our board, through the efforts of our Economic Restructuring Committee, has continued to concentrate our time on a renewed economic development effort to fill the empty storefronts on Main and Ridgeway Streets.  This year, we have not only continued working to fill the empty store fronts, we have developed a commercial space marketing brochure that is about to go to print as I write this. In an effort to continue building community cooperation with others also interested in seeing our downtown area grow and prosper, we have worked with our Town Manager and Council, The Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Committee, the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and the other non-profit organizations in Clifton Forge..  The results are obvious if you drive or walk through our shopping district.  Several new businesses have opened in recent months and one or two more are expected to open their doors soon.

Another part of our mission is to promote our Historic Downtown area.  Our board continued to host several events to help with that promotion, such as the shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Virginia – The second annual Easter Bonnet Parade – and soon you will see Scarecrows showing up in our downtown area in our second Annual Scarecrow Benefit Competition and the middle school art students Halloween window mural. In addition we hosted the annual Town Christmas Tree Lighting – our annual Christmas Parade – the Doors of Clifton Forge holiday wreaths – the school children’s Christmas trees -The 6th Alleghany Highlands Triathlon – and our annual day long Stars and Stripes Celebration on July 4th beginning with a very special parade and ending with an evening of incredible music entertainment and a spectacular fireworks display.

As if that isn’t enough – The Design Committee of our board, under new leadership, has worked very hard to bring order and new beauty to our three “Welcome to Clifton Forge” signs with consistent weeding and the planting of lovely seasonal flowers.  They have replanted the low planting containers on Ridgeway Street with seasonal flowers that have continued to improve the large bed at the corner of Roxbury and Ridgeway Streets.

Once each year, in September, we ask you and others to make a contribution to Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc. to help us keep our doors open and the lights on so we can continue working to develop our Historic Downtown area.  Your contribution each year, along with the gifts of other generous folks, a stipend from the Town and the profit from the sale of our Clifton Forge promotional merchandise throughout the year, are the monies we use to pay our rent, utilities, insurance, and our part time office manager. We want to continue working to make every day “A Great Day to be Alive in Clifton Forge” – with your support, we are going to make that happen…

Very Sincerely Yours,

The Board of Directors

Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc.
